Open UNITE positions for Doctoral Researchers

Forest information from a pad in a forest

UNITE is looking for five Doctoral Researchers to support our research, especially in the areas of machine learning, forest growth model ecosystems, and the development of compensation and management mechanisms for carbon sequestration and forest biodiversity.

The open positions are part of unique cooperation experiment between state research institutes and the University of Eastern Finland (UEF) to build a new approach to national doctoral education. Within UNITE, the UEF’s School of Forest Sciences and the Natural Resources Institute of Finland (LUKE) are participating in the experiment.

In the experiment, full-time work on a doctoral dissertation and related supervision takes place at UEF, whilst LUKE enhances the researchers’ research skills in addition to their doctoral dissertation. The Doctoral Researcher will sign an employment contract with both institutions.

The call for applications to the doctoral researcher positions will end on 14 August. The applicants must be eligible for doctoral education in accordance with the admissions criteria of the doctoral programmes. Persons employed by the research institutes and UEF’s doctoral students may also apply for the posts. The first doctoral researchers of the pilot are to start in their duties in the end of this year.

Call for applications in UNITE Flagship:

Doctoral Researcher – Researcher, Forest Science, Intelligent integration and applications of simulation and optimisation (UEF/Luke)

Doctoral Researcher – Researcher, Forest Science, Development of a next-generation growth simulator to support the diversification of forest management and the emerging ecosystem services
