The IRN on Cold Forests is an international research consortium that studies how northern hemisphere mountain and boreal ecosystems function. The IRN 2022 Cold Forests conference, open to all, is organised together with UNITE.
The 2022 annual Cold Forests conference will take place on October 6-8 at the Joensuu campus of the University of Eastern Finland, and online. The program consists keynote lectures, regular talks, and short poster talks (“lightning talks”) and a field excursion on October 8. Part of the regular talks and posters are virtual presentations. Click here for the full program and more information at the event page
Participation is free and open to all. To get the live stream link for attending online or register for on-campus attendance, follow this link: https://link.webropol.com/s/IRNColdForestsConference2022
Registration for the online attendance will close Wednesday October 5 at 16.00. Links to registered attendees will be sent after that.
The ecological and socio-economic challenges linked to the study of these ecosystems are fundamental in a changing climate, societies and societal objectives. Cold forests provide major ecosystem services, but their ecological uniqueness highlights the need for an understanding of their functioning over long time scales.
The Cold Forests consortium aims at increasing collaborations among different international partners, including research groups from Canada, China, Finland, France, Norway, and Sweden. It is also a training center for master and doctorate students in paleoecology, forest ecology, climate modeling, and biodiversity management. Training takes the form of numerous development internships within and outside the international research network.
